Hello,

I received your voicemail in regards to Spencer Tracy. Here are a few photos of him. I did keep his name. He is doing fabulous! He is a great cat full of love and I fell in love with him the first day! He loves his new home very much and his mommy too (me) :-). He is very spoiled with lots of hugs and kisses and he enjoys sleeping on top of me and wakes me up every morning by tapping his paw on my face. He is a bundle of joy!! I'm very happy to have found him and able to have adopted him! I wouldn't trade him for the world! Thank you for following up and I hope you enjoy his photos.

Luna (Stella)

Hello Team at Protectors of Animals!

So, I adopted Stella, a 7 year old long-haired black cat.  I love her!  Her new name is Luna, after the Roman Goddess of the Moon.  Luna is so affectionate!  She is also a quiet explorer.

She loves to eat Fancy Feast and I also feed her some dry food that I bought at Costco.

Luna likes to drink and I have three different water containers for her.  She is also a very conscientious litter box user.

She is a lovely cat.  Very friendly.

Peanut and Perley (Tyra and Sera)

Formerly Tyra and sera. Growing like weeds. Running and playing like crazy!  We love them and they love us!  My elderly mom passed away two weeks after we got the girls and I have moms eleven year old female we got from poa. They play together. Lots of fun and entertainment!!  Thank you!

Oscar update

I wanted to let you know how Oscar has been doing at our house. He is such a sweet guy, we all love him and are happy to have him as part of our family. He has settled into the master bedroom nicely and definitely thinks of it as his own! His favorite spot is a fleece blanket at the end of our bed- I usually find him snoozing there. He likes the cardboard box the kids decorated & carpeted for him, and he also likes his mouse and a feathered ball toy that we bought for him. (Ironically he could care less about the cat tree and fancy bed I bought him, and I may end up donating them to you all, if you can use them!) He passed his vet check with flying colors, although they did strongly recommend that we help him transition to a wet prescription food for his crystals. I am happy to say that with patience and a careful transition he is now on the wet food (he will only eat the kind with "fillets" in it- none of that mushy stuff for our guy!!)

I will say that he is still very cautious- loud noises and quick movements (like 3 children running up the stairs & into the bedroom to say hello) will send him under our bed in no time. We are working on helping him adjust to our sometimes boisterous home, mostly by working with the kids to move more slowly and speak more quietly! He is not a big fan of our dogs, although we have gotten to the point where he will let them come into the room and sniff around without puffing up like a raccoon and hissing. I am very careful to supervise their visits, and usually block the door off with a baby gate so they can all see, but not touch, each other. My two older dogs are not really concerned with him, the 4 year old pup is curious but is also clearly intimidated by the tiger we brought home. :) 

When I go out during the day and the dogs are confined to their own room downstairs, I leave my door open so Oscar can feel free to explore, however I have never come home to find him anywhere but on his blanket. I am glad he has a space he feels comfortable in.

 Every night he comes up on the bed and lays across my chest or snuggles between me and my husband and purrs like crazy, he loves having his head patted, & he comes up to me when I call to him (in my room) and enjoys the kids when they are being quieter and more careful. He is definitely getting attention, care and love! I am planning to keep to our current gentle transition plan in the hopes that some day he may be ready to move around more freely- but please let me know if you have any further suggestions.

Update: Gretchin

Dear Protectors of Animals Staff,

My name is Chelsea Burns, I came into your facility in hopes to find an adult cat, one that we knew their behavior and personality. But as last option, just to show, I was introduced to the 8mth old "Gretchin" and instantly fell in love!

Mila is the absolute happiest, fun, exciting family member. Mila has about 4 bird toys that give her a lot of exercise, she actually plays fetch! Now that the weather is nice her true passion is looking out the back porch and listening to the birds. She is an active, curious kitty that offers so much joy and laughter to our household.

I wanted a cat for a companion and Mila is EVERYTHING I could ever want in a cat. She follows us around the apartment, even waits outside the shower for me! When we come home, she greets us at the door purring and then goes some place level to us to give nose kisses. My favorite is that she is a lap/chest cat!!  My boyfriend, never been around cats first asked "what is the breathing sound she is making, what's wrong with her" she was purring! He is now an expert with her and I am very jealous since he is her favorite to sleep on.

Thank you for your help especially the lady in the picture who was so incredibly helpful and honest. Just wanted to update you that you gave her a nice home! It is truly a blessing to have her

Oscar Update

Hi Laura,

 

I saw your POA program on TV last week and it was a wonderful showing of what you volunteers do.  Of course, I am a little prejudice.  Your boys are just adorable.

 

Oscar had his sixth birthday last week (he was 3 when I adopted him).  He is doing well with no signs of his original diagnosis of kidney problems returning.  He celebrated with family and loved his cake and ice cream.

 

 

Above is a pic of Oscar in his new tee shirt that he wore when we attended a 100 year old resident's birthday party at the nursing home.  The top of the tee reads "The cutest dog on this Earth". He loves going there and adores all the attention that he gets.  He is a charmer.  I am so blessed that we found each other.

Bandit Enjoying His New Family

  It was great meeting you and thank you so much for Bandit. He's been a lot of fun. He had a few accidents in the house Sunday, but has already started sitting by the door when he needs to go out. We decided to have him sleep in a crate at night. He cried for maybe 15-20 minutes when he was first put in it Sunday night, but then calmed down and slept the whole night, then curled up in bed with my son as soon as we let him out of the crate in the morning.  The two of them have been glued together ever since we left the shelter Sunday. Here are some pictures of Bandit with the kids, enjoy!

Ferguson's Wonderful Update

Hi Laura,
Ferguson is doing great :-). We really think he likes his new home. We absolutely love having - he's a perfect addition. He is going to his first vet appointment on the 29th of March and he's seeing a cardiologist at Angell on the 5th. Molly has really warmed up to him and we think they are going to be good buddies. We actually caught them almost snuggling the other night. He only marked twice in the house the first two days but hasn't done it since.  He's going to start working with our trainer in a couple weeks too :-). He's such a sweet boy and we love him so much already. I'll make sure to let you know what the vet and cardiologist say :-)

Cody Update

Cody is a wonderful dog. He loves to be near us. He follows us around the house and is content to just lay around and watch tv or just chill out. He obeys the sit stay and lay down commands . He will wait until he is given the command to eat.  I can't wait for better weather conditions to take him on long walks and hikes.  He lacks socialization skills and hope to get him use to being around other dogs. This may take some time.  Who knows what his past life was like in that situation.
I hope all is well with you. Erik is so happy with Cody. He takes Cody for his morning walk before school and walks and plays with him when he gets home. Cody has a bed in Erik's room and at bed time Cody follows Erik upstairs and settle in for the night.

Beautiful Bandit's new family!

Update for Niko aka Bubbles.

Hi Anya,

I hope you are doing well.  Sorry it has been so long since you received
an update.

Nicco is doing great!  He is such a love.  We really do enjoy having him
as part of the family.

The dark winter nights proved a little too dangerous for our nightly walks
(cold and messy too), so we got a treadmill.  I'm happy to report that
Nicco and I walk the treadmill nearly every night we are not able to go
outside.  He loves it and if I'm on the treadmill he patiently watches and
waits for his turn.

This week, he started doggie daycare.  Winston isn't much of a playmate
and I realized that Nicco needed some extra exercise and socialization.
He loves it!  Now when I leave the house and don't take him, he barks at
me to go.  He'll be going 2 days a week.  He's made fast friends there
with a labradoodle.

Starting Monday night, we'll be going to a 7 week long obedience I class.
It is being taught by Diane Abbot (in case you have heard of her).  I
admit the class is more for me than Nicco.  I want to be sure to give him
consistent messages and reinforcement.

I've attached a picture from daycare.  He refused to look at the camera.
I find it hard to get good pictures of him either becuase his color blends
into the background or mostly becuase he does not stop moving.

Charlie's Newest Trick

Hi 

It's been a while so I figured you may be in need of a cute video of Charlie (showing his newest of many tricks) and a cute pic too (he likes to stay under the blankets when it's really cold. He is such a quick learner, it only took me 5 mins to teach him to "wave". Not sure if you know this but he took and passed Agility 1 & 2!! He was so damn cute on all those obstacles... he had to try twice as hard as the big dogs but he did it! We hope all is well with you!!! You will have to let us know when you will be in Wethersfield and we can bring him to see you!

Three year Lucy aka Kenzie adoption update

It's been 3 years since I brought Kenzie (Adoption name Lucy).  Still amazed at how lucky I got when I adopted her. I've owned Jack Russell's half my life and been around relatives dogs most of my life and Kenzie is the best dog I've ever known, even if I don't understand what is going on in her brain most of the time.  Kenzie is happy & healthy, loves to cuddle up with people and is always eager to go to bed early and sl

Odin Update

Hi Laura and Mindy!

I know I've given you an update, Mindy, but I wanted to send you both a quick email to let you know how Odin is doing.

He has gotten much better about chewing on his leash when we get ready to take him out, but we are working with him to not pull so much when he gets excited. He will, however, chew on anything else he can find! Any toys with stuffing don't stand a chance with him! Not even the 'indestructible' ones. So we have to stick to bones and treat filled kongs. He loves socks, paper towels and slippers the most, so we are working on teaching him that those things are not his. He is slowly learning. He can remain in a down-stay for a quite a while now, but gets board if the treats are not coming fast enough. He loves the snow! With this much he doesn't know what to do other than to eat it! He will eat pretty much anything, or at least try to anyways, so he is always sniffing around to see what you have. And he loves laying on the bed, especially on the pillows! He's a great dog and his personality is really one-of-a-kind. We love him so much.

Thank you both for all of your help and for this opportunity. He has fit into our family as if he's always been part of it.

Update on Grommit

Hi Matt,

Great to hear from you -- things have been going very well. We've had a great time getting to know Grommet... he's really a very special and sweet dog! Sammie and he have been getting on great too, and it's wonderful to watch them playing together, being such a great matchup of high energy personalities. I've attached a picture showing a rare quiet moment after they'd worn each other out. Last Sunday we also took them to Chatfield Hollow park, a popular dog walking venue, and Grommet had a nice afternoon encountering many other dogs big and small, and he was often the center of attention. Though shy at first, he was walking with confidence by the end of the outing.

Thanks for checking in! We're planning to take Grommet to meet our vet in another week or so, as recommended.

Yoda Update

Yoda is doing very well.  Yes, he has settled down and he rarely chews things he's not supposed to.  Also, he's not humping anyone's legs anymore.  We all just love him so much.  He's very playful, but also cuddly and lovable.  He's laying next to me on the couch right now.  I attached some pics from my camera, but have to learn how to send the ones on my phone.  Thanks for checking in.

Pepe Update

Hi Laura,

Hope this email find you well! It's been a while since I've given you an update

on our Pepe and I thought you and your team would like to know how he's doing.

Attached is a family photo from Thanksgiving.

Pepe's had his ups and downs health-wise. In December, he had surgery to remove 2 bladder

stones. We've learned that he has irritable bowel syndrome and Addison's disease. 

With steroids and a special diet, he is doing well most days. 

He's still fussy about going for walks so my husband drives us about a mile from home and we 

get out and walk so he has no choice other than to walk, which he eventually enjoys!

He is getting lots of love and affection which I think is helping him a lot, too.

Hope the snow's not too bad for you and you and all your rescue dogs are fine!

Ellie Update

Hi there !  Ellie is fantastic.  She is such a sweetheart and sleeps under the covers at my feet each night.  She is a love bug!  She doesn't particularly like the cat but she has gained alpha status lol.  She shows no signs oh separation anxiety.  So glad she is part of our family.  She is sitting on me right now as I type.  Hope you are well!  I visited my friend john the other week. He adopted a cat named Ozzie from POA.  He is adorable!!!!  Hope this finds you well!

Frankie Update

  Frankie saw our Vet for the first time yesterday.  He weighs 12.6 pounds. He was great - well-behaved and very friendly. Everybody loved his personality and found him very handsome. 

  We noticed that he didn't like to go out with the other dogs when it got too cold. They have these natural big heavy duty fur coats, and poor Frankie was shivering with the cold (although, he didn't mind the snow when it got warmer). We were using some of our dogs' old coats, but they just didn't fit right and kept sliding around on him. We tried shopping for some, but found no good fit anywhere. One lady at PetSmart said they don't seem to make coats for his length with his small waist and "barrel chest"! I guess he's just a MOOSE!

 So, Georgette picked up some materials and patterns and made him a coat and knitted him a sweater. These are some pics of Frankie with his new wardrobe. He's lucky to have such a crafty mom.
