Update Cosmo AKA Zinnia
Hi,
Just wanted to send you an update on Zinnia, now Cosmo. She is adjusting to our home fabulously! As you know, she loves attention and the girls are really enjoying her. She and the dog are also doing very well. Cory, our dog, seems happy to have a cat in the house again as she is always wagging her tail when Cosmo is near her. Cosmo always under my feet and looking for attention but she has started to settle and just sit alone on the couch in the sunshine too.

Update Sophie (Piper)
Sophia the kitten has been renamed Piper. We just love
her to pieces and after a few days of getting to know escape routes from our
older cat and two Havanese, Piper now hangs out comfortably with everyone! She
knows now that our younger Havanese, who scared her at first with his
exuberance, is actually her most reliable playmate (other than our son Griffin
of course!). She is a most wonderful addition to our family.
Please pass our thanks on to the foster mom who provided the opportunity for
Piper to spend her first weeks of life in a safe and comfortable
environment. Because of this Piper was able to develop into a confident,
curious and loving companion.
Warm regards,
Val, Joe, Connor and Griffin Sullivan
Ember, Zoey, Rio and Piper!
Caprice update
Almost 1.5 years ago i adopted a petrified young cat
named Caprice. She was re named cappy she was so scared and was in such
a tight ball in the corner of her cage that she was soaked in
condensation from her own breathing. In your cat room she tried to
climb the walls. And in my arms she just burried her head in my chest
amd trembled. i thought i would send along some photos to show how
comfortable she is in her forever home...
Alaina update
I just want to give an update on Alaina. I decided
keep the name Alaina. She has adapted to her new home very well. She
gets along great with Sophie (formally Sola). Sophie is a little
instigator and will follow her around, poking at her until Alaina starts
to chase her. They take turns chasing each other around. It’s just
play. I’ve not heard any growling or hissing. Alaina likes to just lay
around. She likes attention, but is not a lap cat. One thing about
her is very strange. She is not afraid of the vacuum cleaner. All the
other cats I’ve ever had run and hide when the vacuum comes out.

Update Natasha
It's been almost a year and a half since we adopted Natasha from POA. Now renamed Aja (pronounced "Asia" - as in the Steely Dan song/LP), she's very settled and comfortable here. She's still skittish with strangers and goes to her safe place in our closet during thunderstorms, but otherwise, she's healthy and doing great. We invested in a nearly 6-foot tall cat tree and had expected our other shelter cat, Isis, to perch up at the top, but Aja surprised us by being the one who loves to climb around and explore the higher levels. Her favorite activities are batting milk bottle rings around the room and then hiding them, watching the world from her favorite window, watching Daddy play video games on TV, and snuggling with her kitty best friend, Isis. She's become quite the character and is much more assertive and vocal now when she wants food, a playmate, or cuddles. Definitely not the cowering, scared cat who stayed in a corner until called/coaxed like when we first got her. We went through a period where our other cat was very sick (turned out to be a food allergy) and Aja was very affectionate and groomed Isis when she seemed to be too weak or drowsy to clean herself. She stayed by her a lot of that time and now, one will always come running if the other one cries, i.e. during thunderstorms or when we have to give one a pill or flea treatment. They've really bonded and Aja seems very happy here. Sending along some photos of her and one of the two of them together. Thank you for everything you do. We're so glad to have Aja as part of our family.

Sophie (Solo) update
I recently
received a voice mail asking about Sola. She is doing fine. She is now
called Sophie. The first week she stayed under the bed, but since then
has become one high energy kitty. I think she sleeps when I’m not home
and then when I get home from work she wakes up she runs from room to
room. Her favorite toy is a wand toy with a fake bird on the end. She
picks it up and drags it around the house when she wants to play. She’s
does follow me around the house, but still doesn’t like to be picked up
or sit on my lap. Just about every night she wakes me up in the middle
of the night to either snuggle or play.
I’m thinking of getting her a friend.

Simba update
I've attached a pic of Simba and Holly.
He's so loving and patient with the kids.
If we can get Sophie-Belle (aka Adora) to sit still long enough, we'll take a pic of the two of them together and send it over. They love to play and chase each other around the house. She sure is a ball of energy!
Thank you for everything!

Roxie update
Writing
with a great update on Roxie, same named but nicknamed Roo-Roo. She
had some struggles getting settled in but is now happy and very much at
home. I have never had a cat that values security over adventure so
much - she really just wants to be safe and is not very curious, doesn't
even watch the birds right outside her window much! She is loving and
sweet and ADORES treats and wet food - she chirps for it, and if you try
to pet her before producing it, she will duck your hand, run to her
food bowl, and give an expectant look with her huge green eyes. When
she gets ear rubs she thumps her kind leg like a bunny - it is very
cute.
She and my resident tortie do not get along at all so I have kept
them separated, but she has done well with a friend's kitten. Thank you
so much for bringing us together.
-Elizabeth
Carrot update
Carrot, was very upset being here, (just joking) didn't want
to be in a cage or stuck in a room. He ate some food, used the litter
box already. Here he is on the bed with me. Oh he ate some turkey from
my plate. Loving beautiful cat, so glad we adopted him.
I know he is part of the family already. He's napping now, SO CUTE.They both got new toys, so no one is left out they will be playing and sleeping together before we know it.
Thank you for spending so much time with us, it was much appreciated.
Best Regards and much thanks,
Kathy and Rich.
p.s. the thunder is LOUD, BUT Carrot has no intention of getting up off my feet and leaving the bed while I read.

Story about Rescuing 10 kittens and 2 mother cats!!
Bob and Gail Davis borrowed traps from POA to rescue a bunch of kittens and mom cats in their area.
They successfully trapped them, fixed them and placed the kittens. Here is an update and a beautiful picture!!
To the POA Staff:
Here are the kittens we rescued...6 with the traps and 4 by hand. We also trapped two mother cats – One Calico, with her kitten, Delilah, in the same trap and One Orange. The mother cats were spayed and returned to our back yard, where they’ve spent all of their lives so far. They were too feral to foster. We are continuing to feed them as is our neighbor two houses down. Our son, daughter-in-law and our two grandchildren (Christopher 15 yrs. and Rachel 12 yrs.) are fostering them.Jack is the kitten our son and family kept. He was rescued from our crawl space in the cellar. Because they had to put their two year old cat down due to kidney failure, they decided to keep Jack.
Patronus was the first kitten adopted. We pulled him from under the garage door. His eyes were all pasted shut so he couldn’t see. We brought him to our Vet. The Dr. cleaned his eyes. When he was brought back out to us, his eyes were beautiful. They gave him a clean bill of health. We had him a day and a half before he was adopted by a family. Both Bob and I got choked up & I cried when Melissa came to get him. That’s when they caught two of the kittens by hand.
Minnie was the next kitten to be adopted. Milo and Donnie were adopted this morning (Sat. 6/29/2013). Delilah will be going to another home sometime this week.Boo and Mikey are also spoken for. Midnight and Leo are still very skittish and will continue to be fostered by Brett and Melissa until they are comfortable with the human touch.
We were very happy and Blessed to have been able to rescue the 10 Kittens and two mothers. Delilah, the Calico, looks just like her mother. The orange kittens look just like their mother. I am convinced we had help from God as we wouldn’t have had such success otherwise. The kittens are adorable and all healthy. I believe it was due to our neighbor and us feeding the mothers when they were pregnant. Melissa was telling me that she had 5 of the kittens on her. They were licking her ear and face and purring. When they opened the porch door (right off their kitchen), to feed them, the kittens took off into the house. They had to chase them to get them back onto the porch. Jack tried to get on the porch. When they are being fed, Brett and/or Melissa or our grandchildren have to be careful where they walk because they are all over their feet. We are so grateful to Brett, Melissa, Christopher and Rachel. It would have been much harder if we didn’t have them and their love for the kittens.
This is our success story. We love animals and feel those who are irresponsible pet owners should be fined for allowing their pets to run loose without being spayed or neutered. We have 5 adult cats – all spayed: Penny, Pepper, Kahli (the mom who had kittens), Belle and Sammy - all females. We keep them indoors as we live near a busy street. One of the cats we have was let loose by her previous owner and had kittens in our neighbor’s garage. Fortunately, she was friendly and we were able to adopt her after her kittens were old enough to be adopted. Thank you all for all you do for abandoned cats and kittens.
Thank you for the use of the traps.
Bob and Gail Davis
The kittens names from left to right:
Top – Donny (Ninja Turtle), Midnight,
Delilah (Calico), Mikey, and Jack.
Middle - Boo, Milo (another Ninja Turtle), Minnie, and Patronus (named after a character in Lord of the Rings).
Bottom:- Leo (another Ninja Turtle).
Of course the names will be changed as they are adopted. Originally, we named Patronus – Moses.
Desi - Forever in our Heart!
We recently lost a member of our family – our shelter cat Desi. Desi came to us around age 4 and got adopted out to a nice older gentleman who loved her very much. When he passed away 4 years later she came back to us and she’s been there ever since. She was 14 years old and recently began suffering from kidney failure and seizures. Below is a poem written by one of our volunteers - Leah Raymond - about Desi’s life at the shelter.
DESI with
those big green eyes, watching as the feet go by.
Laying
there she gets a pet, some are old, some new just met.
Daily walk
to playroom back, moving those old bones to crack.
Strong,
courageous, loving, brave, POA her life they gave.
Other cats
dare not cross her line. they knew she was not fine.
Respect
for that ole’ girl they said. Let her be
peaceful in her bed.
DESI, DESI
with those big green eyes, now look down from the big blue sky.
No more
feet does she see, she looks from above and sees you and me.
Thank-you,
thank-you for all you do, all the kitties up here, want me to tell you!!!
LOVE,
DESI

Little Bear aka Ziggy Tom Update!!!
"Little Bear" has been re-named "Ziggy Tom" (my daughter came up with Ziggy and my 5 year old son also wanted some part of the naming process thus the middle name Tom). He has been a great addition to our family and has provided much love and humor so far. As far as eating,he has no problem in this area as he has a hearty appetite. The whole family just loves him and we are so happy to have found him on your website.
Thank you again,
The Duursema Family
Bella update!
Just wanted to let you know that Bella is adjusting fine. She hid for the weekend but then quickly became playful and outgoing. Our other cat is a bit wary but warming up.
Attached are some pix of them together, and a few of Bella playing and checking out the birds through the window.
We're happy to have her in our family!
Best regards,
Celine
Zizi & Ziza - A Success Story!!
We love our kitties!! We are soooo glad that we decided to adopt the pair. They have wonderful personalities and we love watching how they each have their own unique traits. Everyone in the family loves the cats, but my daughter has a special closeness with them and spends a large amount of her time at home with them. (she is the one who begged for cats)
Zizi initially hid under furniture for a little under a week. She came out to eat and use the litter box when we weren't home or at night. I could hear her running around after we went to bed. Once she was here a week she started coming out to see us more and more. Now she is right there to greet us when we get home, when we wake up, or even when we get up from sitting down. She is playful and loves to be petted. She likes to sleep under one of our beds at night.
We changed Ziza's name to Zella. She was much more timid at first. She hid under a chair for almost a month. One day we came home and when we were outside we saw her sitting in the kitchen window so I knew she was exploring when we weren't there. I encouraged the kids to leave her alone for awhile so she could get used to the settings. Eventually we started bringing her canned food and giving it to her under the chair so that she could associate us with something good. That seemed to help and eventually my daughter was able to coax her out from under the chair to be petted. She initially only came out when only one person was in the room and she would run and hide if anyone else came. Gradually she got more used to the family and now she is always near one of us!! She loves to sit on the furniture with us and she sleeps on the bed with us. Both cats are curious, but she is definitely the most curious!
When it gets dark outside the cats like to stand near the sliding glass doors and watch moths that come to the window. Sometimes they like to jump up to try to catch them. They don't seem to notice that they are on the other side of the glass! It's very cute!
Zizi had an upset stomach off and on when she first came. She is now on Purina Pro Plan dry food and Science Diet moist food and she hasn't had any issues since then.
I wanted to get some good pictures to send you but it has been really hard! The cats are just like my kids were when they were babies, as soon as I go to get the camera they get up from what they were doing or they move!!
Thanks again for helping us to choose kitties that would be a good match for our family! We definitely are thankful that we have them! :-)
