Benjamin

As you can see, Benjamin is doing great!  He is not quite ready to make friends with Tallulah, but they are tolerating each other. Yesterday was the first day we gave him free access to the house while we were out for a few hours. I don’t think he moved from our bed the whole time we were gone.  I am hoping they will be friends some day – it took her and our other cat a little while to make friends.  I am trying to make sure she is getting plenty of attention too as I can tell she is a bit jealous of Benjamin.
Benjamin really likes my husband.  He has been sitting on his lap and hanging with him on the couch at night.  He also loves sitting in the window when it is open.  He has been sleeping with us since we have given him access to the whole house.  He purrs SO LOUD at night.  He seems to be very happy and honestly I have to laugh when you say ‘calming’ collar because if he was any calmer I think he would be comatose. When he’s lying on the bed (most of the day it seems) he is just sprawled out like he doesn't have a care in the world.

Maggie's Doing Great

Hi Laura

I finally had a minute to check my emails and saw you had written to me. I don't open my computer daily so sometimes it takes me a bit to get back to people

Maggie is doing very well. No problem with the cats, if she gets too close they give a quick hiss and she backs off. But they are around her all day and she seems to like them very much. I think they like her too. She enjoys her new yard - lots to smell and investigate. Our vet said she is in good shape and probably @ 8 years old as you stated. We got her a supply of Heartgard and flea/tick preventative so we can keep her on schedule. Pretty much everything has been about Maggie since we got her. She had a bath and grooming yesterday and did wonderful. The groomers said she was a very good dog but didn't like the big blow dryers so they used the hand held type. She smells very nice and her fur is clean and shiny. She adores the car and goes to sleep as soon it starts moving!

We took her for a nice walk yesterday in a local park and she had a ball. We are off again today to get her a harness, our vet recommended the Easy Walk and some more treats and supplies. I have a bed on order for her and a new collar and leash.

The only thing we have to work on is housetraining. She is fine all night but doesn't understand she has to GO outside during the day. If need be, we will get some professional training but for now we are treating her like a puppy and doing basic housetraining with her.

I will try to get you a pic of Maggie but I am not that good at it. I have a basic phone but may be able to still email you something. I will be getting a disposable camera to take photos of her but I will try over the computer as well.

I hope Mae and the others are fine.

Thank you for Maggie - we all think she is a really great dog - very sweet and gentle. She is actually laying by my side right now. She pretty much stays close to me if I am around, if not she is sure to find either mom or dad for company!

Have a great weekend!
Linda :)

Princess's 2 Year Update

Hi Laura

Just a note to let you know that Princess continues to thrive and is a quirky funny little girl.  Its been almost 2 years since we adopted her and we could not be happier we made that choice. She now weights  almost 16 pounds and has a full coat.

She has several squeaky toys and is particularly attached to one which is a little lamb, (it goes to bed with her and gets up with her every day).  She also has the remains of another stuffed toy that is now 3 pieces of purple cloth.  No squeak in that one.  The 3 pieces of rag are also her security blankets I guess because they also go to bed with her every night.  She has us very well trained.

She loves to run out and chase the ducks and squirrels out of the yard.  The geese are a different story.  She respects them, and we have to chase them.  They make such a mess.

Lucy is 11 now and we are going for her routine vet visit today with her. Princess will go along for the ride and get weighed.  Lucy has had a few problems this past year and we put up a ramp for her to go up and down off the deck, they both use it.  Princess and her get along very well.

Hope all is well with you.  I still look at the dogs frequently on your website.

Have a good day, Mary

Lucky's Update

Hi Laura,

I think we've had Lucky for about 6 wks now, give or take, but it seems like a life time! He is so wonderful and so sweet and so LAZY! LOL! :) Walking him is a chore for sure.  He is still very much in love with Connor but adores all children! Such a sweet gentile dog.  We can pick him up and carry him all over the place with no issues.  He is still skidish of strangers and will hide behind one of us but if they approach him slowly before they know it they have a lap dog.

When he feels up to it he runs around the yard with Roxi chasing his favorite toy, tennis balls!

Thank you again for letting us love him and for choosing us to be his forever home!!!

Hi Laura,

Update on Nalla

Hey Laura.
Can you believe it's been a year this month since we brought Nalla home? She's settled in sooo well for us. She & Shabba are great friends; chasing each other in the yard, laying on each other. She loves sitting on my lap and laying next to Melisa on the couch. She's truly Melisa's girl, following her around the house. She sleeps in our bed. She always announces herself when she goes outside. She's still very afraid of others but is getting a little more comfortable when we have others over. She'll hide when someone is here but not as afraid to move around the house after they're gone. She's been a good fit for us. She's not afraid or confused about us when we come home anymore. Shabba has taught her how to be a dog in a regular home. Having her around has been good for him too.
If she could I'm sure she would send love your way!

Here's A Suzy Update

Hi Laura,

How are you? I realized that I haven't emailed you in forever with a Suzy update! She is doing great :-) She was a trooper through the really cold winter (but she did spend most of it wearing her pink sweater :-) and now she's so happy to be going on longer walks. We just (finally) got a car, so it will be easier to bring her on trips to see our families and for other excursions! (although she was pretty well behaved on the T and commuter rails). She's been perfectly healthy, with the small exception that she was diagnosed with chronic dry eye, so she gets an ointment in her eyes each morning. Poor Suzy isn't a big fan of that, but she is getting used it it. Andrew and I are totally in love with her - she's definitely our little fuzzy baby!

I hope all is going well at POA!
Megan

Here's Charlie's New Haircut

I took Charlie to get a haircut today and was going to send you a picture. He looks adorable-like a little puppy! It was hard to leave him there for the morning but we both survived the separation. He even got to play with some other dogs there. The weather is slowly getting warmer here. He loves going for his walks. Especially when he can get an ice cream cone! I hope everyone is doing well. Charlie continues to be a joy and amazes everyone he meets. The groomer said he was endearing. That's my little love bug!! Take care!

Mel's Update!!!!

Hi Jenn!

Just wanted to let you know how great Mel is doing. He' s funny and affectionate and such a cuddler....I'm sending a couple of pictures...he was up at the table looking for scrambled eggs this morning!!    Happy spring, Linda

Herbie who's new name is Toby has gone home!

Yogi AKA Maui 1 Year Update

Hi Laura,

We can't believe we've had Maui a year. He has been such a joy. He and Alaska have become best friends, sleeping next to each other on their beds. Maui has made friends with both our cats, has picked Merlin, the male as his cat, often greeting him with a lick right up his face. He has changed the dimension of our home, most nights both dogs and cats sleep in our room. Dakota our female cat, feels comfortable enough to curl up on the bed with Maui and or Alaska. Maui still loves his toys, now he has tons, walking around with them in his mouth. Loves his walks, and has come along way with his manners. Everyone that meets him, loves him, and we absolutely adore him. We did not rescue him, he rescued us! Thanks for everything!!!

Update on Popi

Hi Laura,
It's only been a week but we've made huge improvements with Popi.  He no longer whimpers when you sometimes try to pet him.  He used to cry out loud and crouch down in a total submissive position, or he'd run and hide when he saw your hand coming near him to pet him.  That's not happening any longer.   He's now getting used to us putting the harness on him and walking on the lead.  It seems that he's never actually been walked because he had no idea what we were trying to do.  He's walking really well on the lead now.  He does have issues where he's still popping and peeing in the house.  Thankfully, he mostly goes on the pee pads, but he has had accidents on the wood floor.
He doesn't like to go for a walk at night, which is why he was having accidents while we slept.  He's fearful of the dark, so we're working on this with him and being very patient.  It's apparent to us that he was abused and was never really house broken or taken on walks properly.  He was probably beat for having accidents in the house and then most likely just discarded.  We have no proof of this, just an assumption on our part based on his behavior, especially how he acted after he had an accident.
Poor little guy had a rough few years of his life. But he is now safe, in a stable environment and truly loved.  We'll continue to work on the house-breaking and are confident that he'll be able to learn to always go outside.
After 1 week, Tata has given in and is finally accepting him as her little brother.  They're now kissing each other, sleeping together and playing a lot.  Oh and he's eating like a little piggy and has gained a little over a pound!  He's the most loving and sweet dog. All he wants is to love and be loved and he's getting that in abundance.
Here's a pic of Popi and Tata soaking up the sun together.

Sylvia's Time Has Come For A New Home

Bandit AKA Toby's Update

Just wanted to send an update. Bandit (now Toby because Jayden was getting upset that no one could understand him when he tried to tell them his name. He chose Toby after his favorite character from Thomas and Friends, Toby the trolley car.)
He has adjusted so well here. He's attached to Jayden's hip and Jayden is so happy.
He's learned some basic commands, sit, lay down, roll over, shake, stay and leave it/drop it. He really is a smart dog.
Leroy our male cat and him are buddies and surprisingly Mollie hasn't tried to beat him up yet. They just ignore each other.
We still have some work to do to get him calmer at pet stores, but he does great on walks and loves meeting other dogs along the way.
We can't thank you enough and we'll continue to send updates and pictures.

A New Home For Hobbs

Ezri

Oreo now Penny

Back in June of 2013 I adopted a kitten named Oreo.  I took her home to my 10 year old cat Allie and renamed her Penny (Penelope Gladys when she's in trouble).  I did what was recommended for introducing a new cat into the household.  I put Penny in my spare bedroom and closed the door so Allie could get used to her smell.  Then I switched them.  Unfortunately, after the separation time was over and I opened the doors and let them run around the house Allie was not pleased.  Allie and I have been through a lot and she is my saving grace.  So I thought, what will I do if Allie continues to hiss at Penny and just hates her?  But I stuck it out.  Allie began to spiral into depression and it made me really sad.  It had been about 6 weeks and when I said, "This is it!  I can't do this to Allie.  I have to either find another home for Penny or bring her back to POA."  A friend suggested I wait another month.  I was hesitant because I didn't want Allie's health to deteriorate or resent me even more, but I did.  Then one day, Allie was laying on my ottoman and Penny jumped up next to her.  I waited for the hissing but it didn't happen.  Penny smelled Allie and Allie smelled Penny and then Allie licked Penny and turn her head and went to sleep.  I thought, "is this enough, or just an isolated incident?"  Well they continued to show each other affection.  They still fight, but it's play fighting.  I'm so happy I didn't give up on them.  I love them both so much!

Makenzie (Mak) and Bix

Mak and Bix are doing what cats do- - - -taking over both home and heart.
Bix remains very cautious, but I've managed to touch him on a few occasions.  Tried to pick him up once, which was a mistake. Otherwise, he plays, runs around like a kitten and loves the enclosed deck, where the more feral side of him seems to kick in.  Mak is doing well and sooo patient with Bix.  I'm happy for Bix's sake that Mak is who he is!

Patch

Patch is doing well, though. He seems very comfortable. He has been using his litterbox, eating, following me around the house and chattering a lot. He asks to be pet and likes to sit with me on the couch. He will get on my bed but not consistently yet, which is fine. He still startles easily with sudden movements, but much less so than before. I think he's happy. My boyfriend was over on Patch's first night, and when we sat on the floor Parch even let him touch him. He has never had a pet, so I think he was unsure how to act at first but they seem to have gotten off on the right foot. :)

Callie a.k.a Joy

“Callie & Summer”
taken the first hour she was at our house
This is Pete, my family and I adopted the Calico Joy (since renamed Callie to avoid confusion with my wife also named Joy).  I wanted to let you know Callie is doing great – she has been very comfortable from the minute she got here. “Callie & Summer” was taken the first hour she was at our house!

She is very frisky and likes to jump up on counters and tables, and loves to play.   She has slept on our and our daughter’s beds a few times already as well.    She is awesome with our daughter, and doesn't seem to mind even when our daughter is very loud.

Taji and Thai

Boys relaxing in bed
The boys are well and doing fine. They are comfortable and Taji has a favorite toy he carries around then lays on to make sure it doesn't get away. LOL Thai loves to be brushed and is a purr head lovey dovey.
Taji and his toy

Shadow

He is doing so wonderful. He adjusted perfectly and has his own little closet home...he must be transitioning from his old home. But he roams the house and has been eating well. He is very cuddly and headbutts us when he wants some attention

Lela

Lela has adapted very well to her new home. She's eating and using her litter box normally. She loves her new perch and she gives us tons of love and affection as we do for her too. We've introduced her to our family gradually and she's shared the same affection with them and has won their hearts over as well.

update: Coal

Coal is one happy boy and adapting well.  He has his own room (for now) and is no longer hiding.  He jumps up on his kitty tower when we come in so he can have 360 degree petting.  He is a sweet little boy and doing very well.  He hasn’t met his brother yet but will when he’s had more time to get used to his new home.

Aayla

Aayla is doing amazing! She has come out of her shell and loves her new brother Anakin. I got Aayla on a Saturday and by Monday evening she was amazed at her new home and family, especially her brother. They play all night and all day chasing the squirrels and deer that visit the yard. Since the birds are coming back and we have feeders Aayla chases them throughout the different levels of the house. She extremely smart and learns many tricks from her brother. They sleep and cuddle together and occasionally you may find one without the other. Even though they are 11 years apart in age they are great fit for each other.

Alayna

Hi,

We adopted Alayna from you about a year and a half ago and I wanted to write you a note to let you know how happy we are with her.  She is the sweetest cat.  She loves to snuggle up next to us.  She also is very playful.  Her favorite games are being chased all over the house and chasing bell balls.  You must have had to trim her fur, because it has grown out a lot from when we picked her up and she now almost has a mane like a lion.  I have attached a couple photos so you can see how she is doing.  Thanks again!

Spencer Tracy

Hello,
I received your voicemail in regards to Spencer Tracy. Here are a few photos of him. I did keep his name. He is doing fabulous! He is a great cat full of love and I fell in love with him the first day! He loves his new home very much and his mommy too (me) :-). He is very spoiled with lots of hugs and kisses and he enjoys sleeping on top of me and wakes me up every morning by tapping his paw on my face. He is a bundle of joy!! I'm very happy to have found him and able to have adopted him! I wouldn't trade him for the world! Thank you for following up and I hope you enjoy his photos.
